One living register, not five conflicting ones.
Replace the CAD-files-and-spreadsheets asset register with a single source of truth tied to live telemetry, documents, location, and maintenance history.
The challenge
Most water organisations have five "asset registers" that don't agree: the engineering CAD library, the finance fixed-asset list, the CMMS work-order database, the field-crew spreadsheets, and whatever the most recent contractor handover left behind. Nobody trusts any of them entirely, so everyone keeps their own copy.
The cost shows up everywhere: replanned investment programmes, missed depreciation, slow handovers between shifts, and decisions made on assumptions because checking takes too long.
What success looks like
How WaterTwin delivers it
- Living digital twin per asset — every component has reported state, configuration, photos, documents, and a complete event log. Powered by the open-source Eclipse Ditto standard, so you're not locked in.
- 3D facility view from your existing models — Revit, IFC, DWG, or FBX import via Autodesk Platform Services. The model becomes the operations interface, not an artefact in a folder.
- Geospatial register — every asset has precise coordinates. Field crews see what's nearby; planners see what's in a corridor; compliance sees what's in a regulated zone.
- Asset documents library — manuals, calibration certificates, warranties, datasheets attached to the asset they describe. No more "where's the manual for that?" five-minute hunts.
- Hierarchical estate model — tenant → facility → asset → device. Roll up to executive summaries; drill down to a single component.
- Bulk operations — manage the long tail without clicking through a hundred dialogs. Import existing registers via CSV or API.
A typical migration path
- Import your most authoritative existing register as the seed (usually CAD + finance combined).
- Anchor each entry to a digital twin and a position on the model / map.
- Attach documents, photos, and historic maintenance records as you find them — incrementally, not big-bang.
- Live telemetry connects to the relevant twins; the register starts being the place people look, which is the moment it starts being the place people update.
- Decommission the parallel registers as confidence in the new one builds.
Where the value compounds
- Capital planning — replacement programmes informed by real asset age, condition, and failure history.
- Shift handovers — every incoming team starts with the full picture, including what happened last night.
- Contractor handovers — when a project ends, the asset data stays in your platform, not on someone's laptop.
- Insurance & regulatory disclosure — accurate, defensible inventories without a special exercise.
What you need to start
- Your current asset register in any structured form (CSV, Excel, CAD export, CMMS export).
- Optionally: facility models (Revit / IFC / DWG / FBX) — value compounds when these are loaded.
- A pilot site to validate the migration shape before scaling.
Bring a sample of your register. We'll show what migrated looks like.
Send us a CSV/Excel of one site's assets and (if you have it) one model. We'll preload a sandbox before your call.
